One of the most detrimental affects to preserving quality in the storage of cut flowers and produce, is ethylene gas. Exposure to Ethylene speeds up the ripening/aging process of most harvested floriculture and agricultural products.
Do you currently own a HEPA filtration fan? We can generally build a custom size filter for a HEPA unit that you already own or anticipating to purchase. Our filters are manufactured so that custom sizes are not a problem and does not add premium cost to the filter. Just E-Mail us with the filter opening dimensions, for a quote. The filtering media contained in our ethylene filter, is expensive and makes up the highest percentage of cost in the filter. My family has been in the florist business for over fifty years and this product is something that we have manufactured for our fellow florists. We have learned over time that the system is beneficial to the produce industry as well.
For those that are not familiar with Ethylene filtering technology:
Ethylene filtering is used in the Florist and Produce industries to filter harmful Ethylene Gas (and some molds) away from the products they store. Filtering the ethylene gas will greatly extend shelf life of stored product. The ethylene molecules are naturally produced by harvested floral or produce and will start to multiply at an accelerated rate. Two molecules, become four and, four molecules become sixteen and, sixteen molecules become 256 and so on and so on Ethylene gas acts as an aggressive aging mechanism to flowers and produce thereby greatly shortening their shelf life. Filtering the air in the storage area where flowers or produce are stored, will greatly reduce the volume of ethylene present. The filtering medium will attract and bond with the ethylene molecules, thus neutralizing the molecules into harmless matter. The filtering media is also safe for disposal. After the ethylene filter has met the approximate life span of three to six months , the filter can be disassembled and the granular contents, can be used as fertilizer in the garden.
