Telescopic Tri-Color Wooden Survey Tripod
This tripod has 3 colors, made of round wood outside rails with grooved, contoured, flat interior pieces that have slots for carrying-see photos; we assume the contouring and slots help to lighten the tri-pod as well. The time/era this tripod was made is still unknown. The head/mount appears to be aluminum, it is non-reactive to magnet, and has a Lietz mark on the top -see photos. The head/mount is also the same green color, (except where paint is chipped), as other Lietz Sikkosha Theodolites and Auto Levels we have recently had. All the other black items on the tripod, the head cap, plates on the legs and the shoes are also not reactive to a magnet; possibly they are a cast aluminum or some other alloy, we do not know their composition. We are unsure what the black coating is that is used on the various cap, plates and shoes; possibly to preserve the metal against the elements, abrasions and impact.
