Some 2008 and 2009 year model California certified diesel powered trucks are required to have a non-programmable engine shutdown system that, will after 5 minutes of idle time shut down the engine. Present CARB regulations allow vocational trucks to operate beyond the 5 minute rule during PTO operations.
The PTO operation exemption infers that the CARB allows vocational equipment to operate at idle when it is necessary to power unique vocational equipment during the normal work event.
The problem is that if the installed equipment is engine driven by a front end accessory drive, i.e. a belt driven hydraulic pump or second generator, there is no PTO mode to enable.
TFB Global s Work Idle Control Module when properly installed will allow the engine to continue to idle during vocational accessory operation, (as it would in PTO mode if it was available). Examples of approved use would be sign board operation on a hi-way safety truck, hydraulic pump operation on a tow or wrecker truck or an emergency response vehicle where night lighting is required during a rescue event.
The Work Idle Control Module should be installed to operate only when the vocational equipment that is engine run dependant is operational. A dedicated system switch is provided to allow for disabling the system independent of the vocational equipment status. The Work Idle Control Module is fail-safe and must be installed with the provided park brake interface switch. The park brake interface will disable the Work Idle Control Module when ever the park brake is released by the operator.
The kit includes the Work Idle Control Module, Interface Wiring Harness, Override Switch, Park Brake Switch and fittings, an assortment of terminal and splice connectors as well as the document envelope.
Installation should require about 1.8 hour when using the recommended materials and process.
The control module has a limited 12-month warranty.
