This is a military spec (mil-spec) component not a cheap import. It is manufactured to a much higher standards than inexpensive imported adapters. Mil-Spec components typically have a much lower VSWR or return loss.
A coaxial adapter with one male end and one female end is often called a "connector saver". Because this type of adapter is often screwed onto an expensive piece of test equipment or component that requires a lot of connects and disconnects. Using a connector saver can prevent damaged to the OEM connector. It is less expensive to dispose a "connector saver" than to repair OEM components.
