45 Lft Antique Heart pine 40" Wainscoting Wall Paneling
Available for purchase is a lot of 45 linear feet of antique, quartersawn, heartpine wainscoting. 40 Lft consists of 40" H boards and 5 Lft consists of 38" H boards. All boards are 2 1/2" W and 3/4" thick.
Quantity: Please note that when we say "linear feet", we don't mean the length from one end of one board to the other, which would be approximately 3 1/2' Each board measures 2 1/2" from side to side (not including tongue and groove), and if you were to connect and lay all 214 boards next to each other, the distance from one side to the other would be 45'. Technically, it would be more because we're only counting the flat portions, and not including the beveled edges.
Heartpine: If you think that pine is a weak, soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. Most modern pine trees, farmed for lumber don't live long enough to develop heartwood. Heartpine comes from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of a tree that has endured the test of time. As a result, heartpine is physically harder, and insect and rot resistant.
Origin: Salvaged from a recently remodeled elementary school in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The school was built during the late 1800's. Take a look at the photo under "old square nails" to see that these boards were made and installed a long time ago.
Condition: For the most part, the wainscoting was salvaged in sections (see photo under "Before disassembling"). We completely disassembled each section, removed the nails from each piece, and examined each piece for defects. Any piece without a tongue, or with a broken grove, or any other serious damage was put into a "junk" pile, and we bundled the usable pieces in packs of 50.
Stripping or Refinishing: We planed a few pieces of the junk pile to show you how the wood looks under the stain. Simply gorgeous! Look at that tight grain!
