This unit is "new old stock". It has a few cosmetic blemishes from being in storage, but the unit has never been installed.
The Zelos Energy Converter is an efficient heat exchanger that recovers wasted heat from your Air Conditioning Refrigerant lines and uses it to pre-heat water for your hot water tank. The unit is enclosed in styrene plastic enclosure,and has a wall mount bracket. Size is 23.5"H x 18.19"W x 9"D with 7/8" copper refrigerant connections and 3/8"MPT water connections. Internal tubing is copper and type 316 stainless steel. Suitable for A/C units up to 7.5hp or 6 tons, using R12, R22, or R502 freon. Complete with manufacturers installation instructions and operational info/data.
Installation is fairly straight-forward. The unit is inserted in the A/C or Heat Pump refrigerant return line where it recovers heat from the freon being returned to your air conditioning unit. This does not affect the efficiency of your A/C or Heat Pump. There are two ways to connect the water side: Method 1: connect your cold water supply to the water inlet on the Zelos unit. Then connect the water out line to the cold water inlet on your hot water tank. This is not as efficient as method 2 because the A/C or Heat Pump needs to be running when your hot water tank is calling for cold water. Method 2: Make a connection to the bottom of your hot water tank, install a water circulating pump in this line, and connect the pump outlet to the water inlet on the Zelos unit. Connect the output from the Zelos to the cold water inlet on top of your hot water tank, and install a check valve in cold water supply line to prevent back-flow. With this setup, water will recirculate continuously and pick up heat whenever the A/C or Heat Pump is running.
If you are not proficient at working with freon and HVAC systems, I recommend that you hire a licensed HVAC technician to perform the installation.
The styrene enclosure for this unit was not meant to be removed, as all of the seams are sealed by plastic welding or the use of plastic adhesive. Consequently, I could not take pictures of the interior.
