Skiving involves cutting a length of the outer jacket from the hose to prepare it for accepting a hose-end coupling. With external Strip Zits, your job of making skiving hydraulic hose is quicker and easier than ever. You can adjust the depth of skive by loosening the adjustment post set screws and tool post set screw to allow the skive blade to meet the hose at an optimal attack angle.
The skive blade approaches the hose at an upward angle, which helps the blade thread itself onto the hose. This reduces the force required to skive the hose cleanly. In addition to reduced forward force, the blade has two cutting surfaces. Made from special hardened tool steel, the initial "long" part of the blade cutting edge creates a slice similar to a surgeon's scalpel.
The second cutting surface acts like a chisel which removes the bulk of the hose. This design is necessary to keep the hose's outer rubber surface from crumbling during the skive. The aluminum parts are machined smooth and chemtreated to avoid corrosion. The steel hose mandrels are bright zinc plated for durability.
