There really not much to describe about these sockets, they are rectangular in shape. They are through hole type designed for 16 pin DIP IC's. I could tell you how these sockets are better then all others, but the truth is they are all manufactured pretty much equally.
These and all IC sockets are definitely worth the investment. The risk in over heating an IC while soldering it onto a board is high and with an IC socket you can heat it up as much as you want as long as the IC isn't in it. CAUTION: Plastic does melt so be fore-warned!!
