Crossing into Mexico from the United States, orderly beige suburbs give way to handmade, stuccoed walls painted all the colors of an unruly rainbow. Flamboyant purple, hot pink, and aqua compete with ripe watermelon red, yolk yellow, and lime green-the rich, tempting colors of icy Mexican snow cones on a summer s afternoon. Jeffrey Becom is a fine art photographer and painter trained as an architect. He has roamed the backroads of Mexico for more than a decade, documenting the country s vibrant hues while celebrating the indigenous cultures that keep these color traditions alive.
