Backflow test kit calibration; gage recertification

FELLOW BACKFLOW PREVENTION TESTERS:
IS YOUR BACKFLOW TEST KIT due for annual Recertification or need Repair?
Allen Backflow Calibration & Testing will meet your needs!
Operated by a test and quality professional with 25 years experience:
* Instrumentation is calibrated and traceable to NIST Standards.
* All tests are conducted in accordance with ASME B40.1
* Applied test pressures are measured to within 0.005 PSID.
* Readings are taken multiple times for each test pressure, in descending mode.
* Manufacturers specify descending mode, and that is how we test.
* All manufacturers' test kits can be calibrated without affecting the warranty!
* In most cases, only external adjustment is required.
* If your test kit is not functioning properly, we can repair it.
* Repair in addition to standard calibration is billed at $75/hr.
As an active BACKFLOW PREVENTION TESTER in the Atlanta Metro area, I am in the field on a daily basis. I understand how you use your test kit and the importance of knowing what your test kit reads. What do you do when that pointer drops to 1.0? Do you have confidence that it is accurate to the 1.0 PSID test limit?
Unlike labs that "run 'em down the line", I take the time to ensure that the 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 PSID readings are as close as possible.
What does that mean for you? I will do everything reasonable to get your gauge to read on the mark. I will NOT release a gauge to the field if the 1 PSI reading is less than 0.95. In most cases, readings can be set to the mark or within 0.10 PSID, over most of the range. If the manufacturer specification for your test kit is "+ - 0.2 PSID", it could display 0.8 at an actual pressure drop of 1.0 PSID and still be in tolerance! What do you do as a tester? Is that backflow prevention device passing or failing? How DO you know? Your gauge is the link to the true value. Annual calibration is required in most cases. Most test kits really DO change in a year.
Our Standard test pressures are 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 11 PSID.
As you know, these are among the most important readings, whether testing Double Check or Reduced Pressure Zone devices.
What do you get when you send your test kit to Allen Backflow?

- If your test kit is not working to your satisfaction contact me to discuss possible solutions.
1. Drain your test kit of all water after the last test of the day. You'd be grossed-out at what can be left in the internals!
2. Flush well, through ALL HOSES, regularly. Back flush filters and let clean water flow through the unit.
- Make an adapter and use the water from your hose or sink to flush the test kit. 1/4" flare adapters are available at the hardware.
3. Open the case after hours. Let it dry. This will prevent corrosion on aluminum surfaces and rust on steel surfaces, tools, etc.
4. Replace the line pressure gauge if it does not stop at "0". Most are 1/8" MPT and available at better hardware stores. Use teflon tape, do not overtighten.
5. Take time to wipe dirt and water from the unit regularly. Your test kit is the heart of your backflow test business. Take care of it and it will take care of you!
6. Cold weather is here now! - keep your test kit from freezing and take it in at night!
