John deere model e 1-1/2 hp hit and miss engine

John Deere Model E 1-1/2 HP Engine
The cart is made of lumber, rebar, and plumbing parts. It has pneumatic tires, and the front wheels steer. It s sturdy enough to hold me, so I figure it should be okay for the engine. The tongue is a piece of pipe, so you can unscrew it and get it out of the way once you have the engine situated.
There are brazing repairs on the head and governor, some J-B weld on the gas tank, the water hopper, and the crankcase cover. Some of the parts, such as the gas tank cap and the water drain, are made of plumbing parts. The tank cover began its life as the side of a computer case, and the oil pan is a modified tuna fish can with a faucet strainer soldered in. Some of the bearing shims are original, but most are made from tin cans and sheet metal. I used new gaskets all around, and they are attached on one side with Indian Head gasket shellac and coated on the other with wheel bearing grease.
The internal parts are in good shape. The timing gear has clearly visible marks for the crankshaft gear and the magneto gear, so if you want to install a magneto, it will be an easy task. The governor appears to have had some brazing done on it, and for some reason it s painted silver. The top half of the main bearings have a corner knocked off, but there s still enough there for a good bearing surface.
I made the coil myself. It has some splices inside, but they are all soldered and taped, so there should be no shorts or breaks. I also made the little wood box. It s no work of art, but it makes the coil look better. Just about any battery is sufficient to get a good spark from the coil. I ran this engine using both a 12-volt gel cell and a battery charger.
I m also throwing in copies of the manual, the magneto and igniter manual, and the repair parts list.
I put the pictures on my Picasa web page. If you click on the link below, you can go to the Picasa page and see the pictures at their original size (click on the little magnifying glass), which is much larger and more detailed than these previews.
This link goes to a movie showing the engine running. If the link doesn t work, you can find the movie on youtube.
