Each chuck starts out as a bar of 4100 series alloy steel. After turning, chucks are hardened through carburization to 55 HRC. Electroless nickel plating is then applied, which offers substatial abrasion and corrosion resistance compared to black oxide. Chucks are precision ground to extremely tight tolerances. TIR at the collet taper relative to the machine taper is less than 0.0001". Finally, chucks are dynamically balanced and certified to G2.5 at 20,000 RPM.
