We've all sat at the bench and soldered some quick circuits. We have also sat at the bench have worked on a big project, soldering for hours at a time, not thinking twice about the fumes. The big culprit is the rosin core center in electronic solder. This flux is an integral part of the soldering process to prepare the work surface and the components being soldered.
Not to get overly technical, but flux is composed of rosin-resin and mixed with an activator (halogen organic agent) that, as the temperature increases, generate noxious components such as salicylic acid and pinene commonly seen as smoke rising from the work area. High content ratios of resin generate phinol (C6H5OH) and the activators can emit hydrogen chloride (HCL) and other compounds. This is stuff you really don't want to constantly breathe while you're soldering! Not only do you not want to, but there are occupational hazard standards controlling the permissible amounts of such compounds in the work area. The 456DLX can not only save you and your health from the fumes, but help you meet these standards!
Designed for use on the factory floor, in R&D, and by the hobbyist in their homes, the 456DLX provides an economical, space saving, and super efficient method to eliminate the hazard of solder fumes. It also improves the work place by eliminating headaches, nausea and eye irritations often associated with exposure to these fumes. A high performance fan together with an easy to replace activated carbon filter does a super job. The activated carbon has a surface area of 1250 m square/gram and the total weight of the filter is 500 grams/meter square. The dust collection efficiency of the filter is 30% while the carbon filter can absorb up to 30% of its carbon weight in noxious components. In other words, it works!
When we looked for an ideal solution, we were extremely conscious of limited bench space. Therefore, the fume extractor couldn't take up much more space than the soldering station you were using. The answer was simple...have both units in one!
The 456DLX features a variable electronic temperature controlled soldering station built right in! Variable control gives you a wide temperature of 500-800 F. The iron has a new ergonomic mini-handle for comfort and ease. Comes with a precision 1/32" tip. Additional interchangeable tips are available in a variety of sizes.
That's right, put your old soldering station or soldering iron away, and use just one product for both soldering and fume extraction. A protected iron holder and sponge tip cleaner is also attached to the side of the station making it the perfect all-in-one soldering tool.
If you're looking to control the hazardous fumes of soldering, looking for a super high quality temperature controlled soldering station, and don't want to spend a fortune, the 456DLX is for you.
