FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
The Sealer is used make to a bag of Shrink Wrapping Material around the product. It has a roller base where the roll of plastic sits comfortably, and a separator arm to open up the upper and lower ply of material. The operator simply pulls the material to the desired length and lowers the sealer bar, which seals and cuts the plastic before automatically shutting off. The operator then turns the bag 180 puts the product in the bag, and repeats the operation.
The film is an attractive, clear, shinny, and flexible wrapping material, which comes center-folded in a roll or bobbin. It is sold in different widths depending on the size(s) of the product(s) being packaged.
The Heat Gun is an industrial grade machine designed to push and heat large volumes of air. This heated air is carefully directed towards the now bagged product, where it causes the plastic to shrink as soon as it touches it. A few passes of hot air wherever the plastic is loose is all it takes to complete the process and end up with a beautiful, secure product.
What is the largest product I can package with this particular model?
Take the width of the sealer and subtract one inch (or 2.5 cm). If your product can fit into a bag that size then you found the right sealer. If, on the other hand, your product is too large to fit into the bag, go for a wider sealer.
How quickly can we Shrink Wrap with this set-up?
That depends on your particular product shape and how nimble the operator is. This is the simplest, most economical, and most labor intensive way to shrink wrap designed for small runs, or for products that are too bulky to fit into a shrink tunnel. In most cases the whole process should take some 25 seconds plus per item.
Use this simple formula: Multiply the height of your product by 2. Add the width or length of your product (whichever is smaller). Now add one inch (or 2.5 cm if using the metric system). That should give you an approximation of the roll size you should use. We suggest starting out with one or two sizes larger, then reducing the roll width once you are sure of the right size you may have a bit of excess material, but you will be able to use the roll.
Is this safe to package foodstuffs?
Yes. The plastic is food grade and can be in direct contact with food.
Can I Shrink Wrap products that have a low melting point, such as chocolates?
Absolutely, just apply proper heat during the shrinking process. This is extremely simple to accomplish after a couple learning tries. Heat transfer to the product will be none to minimal and should not affect your product in any matter.
How hard is it to adjust the sealer?
Setup is extremely simple to do and should take no more than a minute or two. Before you begin read all machine documentation carefully as it includes important safety information. Plug in and turn on Sealer (if applicable). Set up sealing time knob to level one. Put bag in sealer and test. If the bag is not sealed increase sealing timer to the next level. Repeat the process until you get the minimum time necessary to seal your bag.
Are there any consumables or parts we should keep in stock?
Yes, you should always keep a few Heating Elements and Teflon Strips, as these have a limited life span. The machines come with a kit of spares, but keep an eye on how many you have left.
How often should I change the sealing elements and Teflon strips?
These machines come equipped with Teflon-infused fiberglass strips, and round-type heating elements with terminals. Factors that affect component life span include the type, quality, and thickness of the material you seal, how often the machine is used, how its operated, and how it s maintained.
Here are a few tips that will extend the life of your components:
a) Use the minimum necessary temperature to seal the bags
b) Keep the machine free of plastic build-up or debris by carefully applying a clean rag over it
c) Spraying liquid silicone on the sealing area - it acts as an additional agent against adhesion and helps dispel heat away from the fabric
